# The Simpsons: Hit & Run runs in a browser tab, without emulation

Source: [Vheissu/hit-and-run-web (GitHub)](https://github.com/Vheissu/hit-and-run-web)

Vheissu took a PAL PS2 disc of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, decoded the Pure3D geometry, converted textures, animations and mission scripts, and rebuilt the game in Three.js, so it runs in a browser tab with no emulator involved. The README is wonderfully nerdy, with police pursuit rules traced through the PS2 executable, and the author is honest about what's missing: traffic lights, parked cars and the gags aren't there yet, and testing full playthroughs continues. The credits say Codex did most of the reconstruction and Claude made loading faster.

For the porting story, read docs/PORTING.md in the repository.

**TL;DR**

- Three.js rebuild from a PAL PS2 disc image; no emulation, no recompiled executable
- [Play in the browser](https://vheissu.github.io/hit-and-run-web/), or clone (~1.09 GB assets), Node.js 24+ or Docker
- 89 scripted missions, seven chapters: 49 story, 7 bonus, 21 street races, 7 wager races
- 67 character models, 71 vehicle models, 549 dialogue clips, original cutscenes, living-room menu
- Police pursuit, heat meter, 50-coin penalty: rules traced from PS2 executable
- Walking collision: 9,549 outdoor shapes plus 487 from 19 interiors
- Blender pass: 100 scenery files, 1,672 textures
- Missing: traffic lights, parked traffic, gags, collectible cards, full gamepad menus
- Physics and mission AI reconstructed; Codex did reconstruction, Claude sped up loading
- Unofficial; assets keep their copyrights; disc image not in repo
